MTHD 8004 Assignment Research Paper 3 Formulating a Research Question and Hypothesis Student Name Franklin University MTHD8004 Professor Name Date Formulating a Research Question and Hypothesis A nurse is a compassionate, understanding, and effective communicator. Emotional intelligence (EI), the capacity to identify, evaluate, and manage oneโs and others’ emotions in the workplace, has gained prominence in nursing practice (Duguรฉ et al., 2021). This assignment examines how EI relates to patient outcomes, specifically care quality, patient satisfaction, and health outcomes. Topic โHow Emotional Intelligence Influences Patient Outcomes in Nursing Practiceโ Research Questions How does emotional intelligence affect the standard of care the nurses give? How does emotional intelligence correlate with patient satisfaction? Does emotional intelligence training help nurses deliver better health outcomes? In what way does emotional intelligence play a role in the communication between nurses and patients in stressful conditions? Hypotheses Research Question 1 How does emotional intelligence affect the standard of care the nurses give? Null Hypothesis (Hโ) Researchers have not found a positive correlation between emotional intelligence and the quality of care nurses provide. Alternative Hypothesis (Hโ) Nursesโ use of emotional intelligence enhances the quality of service delivery. Research Question 2 How does emotional intelligence correlate with patient satisfaction? Null Hypothesis (Hโ) There is no correlation between measured levels of EI and consequential patient satisfaction. Alternative Hypothesis (Hโ) If nurses display a higher level of emotional intelligence, then patients tend to be more satisfied. Research Question 3 Does emotional intelligence training help nurses deliver better health outcomes? Null Hypothesis (Hโ) Emotional intelligence training for nurses has no difference in the health of the patients. Alternative Hypothesis (Hโ) There is a positive correlation between the nurses’ emotional intelligence training effectiveness and the programs’ favorable impact on patientsโ health. Research Question 4 In what way does emotional intelligence play a role in the communication between nurses and patients in stressful conditions? Null Hypothesis (Hโ) It is ascertained that emotional intelligence does not impact overall communication between the nurse and patient in critical situations. Alternative Hypothesis (Hโ) Emotional intelligence substantially improves nurse-patient communication in high-stress environments. Additional Hypotheses Hโ:ย High levels of emotional intelligence are not associated with lower levels of burnout than low levels of emotional intelligence in nurses.ย ย Hโ:ย The nurses with high levels of emotional intelligence had a significantly lower level of burnout than those with low levels of emotional intelligence. Hโ:ย Emotional intelligence does not impact decreasing the medical errors in patientsโ care.ย ย Hโ:ย Emotional intelligence decreases the incidence of adverse events during patient care. Discussion The nurse should have high emotional intelligence in the nursing practice because it affects different patient care features. Highly emotionally intelligent nurses are better suited to confront difficult circumstances, communicate appropriately, and bring more to bedside care (Hurley et al., 2020). Consequently, patients are satisfied and less stressed, improving their health outcomes. In addition, emotional intelligence improves the perception of patients better and consequently increases relationships with patients (Sun et al., 2020). The study tests multiple hypotheses to provide comprehensive insights into emotional intelligence in nursing. Understanding these relationships further will enhance our knowledge of the topic and aid in developing strategies for incorporating emotional intelligence training into nursing education and professional development.
