    Integration of Telehealth Services in Home Health Care: A Qualitative Exploration

    Applying telehealth services in the field of home health care has changed the approach to patient treatment, especially when it comes to elderly patients. With the increasing popularity of telehealth, including after a pandemic, it is crucial to identify its effectiveness in improving patient outcomes and satisfaction. In this study, the focus will be on the role of telehealth technologies in increasing the quality of care, engaging patients, and increasing satisfaction and self-efficacy among elderly patients requiring home health care services.

    As a result, the study aims to present the positive and negative impacts of telehealth, so that the overall feasibility of telehealth in a home care environment should be determined. It is therefore important to understand these dynamics for enhanced health delivery and well-being of the increasing elderly population through advanced health care solutions.

    Drawing from the ideas presented in this module on qualitative design and the readings, videos, and materials viewed, the following possibilities for the collection and use of artifacts could greatly enhance the research on telehealth in home health care (Adeghe et al., 2024). For example, forms filled out at the end of telehealth encounters can offer numerical values that, when qualitatively assessed, highlight more meaning about patient satisfaction and dissatisfaction. Telehealth recordings provide direct observation collected with patients’ consent, which is necessary to analyze the interaction between patients and healthcare providers.

    Furthermore, patient diaries might offer valuable insights into the everyday experiences of Telemedicine and the psychological and practical consequences for patients. These artifacts coupled with structured interviews can give an understanding of how these telehealth services are perceived and how they have changed the experience of home health care positively or negatively.

    The target group for this paper on telehealth in home health care is mainly the elderly patients who rely on these services to meet their daily health needs. Furthermore, families and carers of such patients are also crucial stakeholders in determining the overall effects of telehealth. Another advantage of this dual focus is to obtain a wider range of perspectives and effects derived from the integration and effectiveness of telehealth technologies in the home setting (Chike-Harris et al., 2021).

    Thus, the qualitative examination of the topic of telehealth within home health care can be multivariate to gain a rich understanding of the experiences of patients and caregivers. Undertaking interviews of elderly patients and their carers in the form of semi-structured interviews can provide the researcher with narrative data on the patients’ and the carer’s engagement with telehealth technologies daily.

    Research approaches such as live and real-time observations which involve the physical monitoring of telehealth encounters may help the researchers to understand the actual and real-life concerns and issues that converge when people engage in telehealth encounters. Furthermore, in the follow-up interviews, the invitation to provide pictures or videos can support participants’ descriptions of the impact of telehealth in their lives, as they remember the experiences that matter to them in a more detailed and emotionally rich way. This form of qualitative assessment of the telehealth concept will assist in revealing not just the practical usage but also the effects on elderly patients’ mental and psychological states that receive home health care services.
