    Defining Myself as a Leader

    The process of becoming a leader is a lifelong process during which I get to learn about myself, to evaluate my experiences, and to keep growing in a manner that will influence the way I mentor, motivate, and influence others. Knowing my weaknesses and strengths is part of becoming a competent leader because it is known that when a person is aware, he becomes a better decision maker and leader in the work environment. Self-evaluation will also help me to compare and analyze myself regarding my leadership skills. The self-assessment will entail determining my strengths, doing a personal SWOT analysis, establishing some SMART goals to develop, and writing my leadership statement.

    My Strengths

    To obtain a better understanding of some of the attributes that can be attributed to my leadership style, I have conducted a self-reflection of my leadership abilities, concentrating on such aspects as authenticity, emotional stability, and innovation. Based on the result of the test, I got a 76 out of 90, which translates to the fact that I was rated 11.6 percent above the world average, meaning that I am well capable of leading and understanding emotions as well. All the above have contributed to my belief that I am a leader, and I have been able to concentrate on the aspects that need improvement and those aspects in which I have already excelled. Indicatively, studies have shown that employees with the capacity to develop their emotional intelligence have high opportunities to create engaged and productive teams (Shah & Sah, 2024). Generally, the evaluation reinforced my opinion that the people-based leadership style should be relevant in creating positive and effective workplaces.

    Be Real

    The aspect of the evaluation that I could do better than in any other aspect was the Be Real dimension, since I got 26 out of 30 points on the Be Real dimension. It is because I possess such attributes as authenticity, sensibility towards ethics, and emotional intelligence. This outcome aligns with the attributes that I appreciate the most when attempting to develop my leadership identity. In other words, I am striving to be honest, empathetic, and transparent in an

    attempt to demonstrate to people that they are important and valuable. Being a true leader is a quality that allows forming trusting relationships and have professional contacts.

    Be Whole

    In addition, the second area where I have scored highly in the assessment is Be Whole, where the overall mark was 27 out of 30. This refers to a state of balance of emotions, resilience, and control over oneself. This indicates that whenever I am faced with any stressful situation, I am capable of retaining my composure and am able to handle tough issues without creating a fuss. One of such qualities that a leader has that I believe is important in making the right decisions, especially in a situation of conflict, is emotional stability. Emotions are significant in establishing the appropriate environment by enabling good communication among the teams.

    My score on the Be Innovative dimension is 23/30, which implies that I am competent in terms of my capabilities to be flexible, innovative, and embrace change. That is, I believe that I will be able to manage changes and become innovative in working in dynamic and uncertain contexts. This is among the primary traits of a leader and could be applied in both problem-solving

    and responding to any challenge satisfactorily. In addition, this outcome also underscores the need to be more active in building initiatives and innovations. Therefore, I should be innovative in order to become a more successful leader.

    Integration of Strengths and Feedback

    Overall, the discussion of these drivers indicates that the factors that drive me are recognition, competence, affiliation, involvement, altruism, and financial security. They are all very similar to my natural style of leadership because I listen to people, their development, and create a comfortable environment, where people are treated in a proper way and feel like they belong. These findings are also confirmed by feedback given by other individuals, including colleagues, friends, people who know me very well, and it is observed that I am a person who is willing to help, be patient, rely on, and support other individuals (Jo and Shin, 2025). Also, numerous individuals stated that I could see the work of other people and provide them with positive feedback.

    Personal SWOT and Leadership Statement

    One such leader, whom I consider myself to be, creates a working environment where one feels valued, respected, and motivated to achieve his or her optimum potential. I also base most of my decisions and dealings on some of the key values, such as empathy, integrity, and accountability, since these are key in how I relate with others. The type of leadership style that I follow is more of a service and collaborative style rather than authoritative, since to me, leadership is everything about assisting and inspiring others towards a common growth. Moreover, I also view leadership as a lifelong learning process and not as a dictatorial position.

    Strengths

    Emotional intelligence, authenticity, good communication, empathy, and dependability are among some of my most outstanding leadership strengths. In reality, I am quite at ease when trying to figure out the opinions of other people, be patient in challenging situations, and help them out when they need it. Also, the views that my colleagues, friends, and relatives have given appear to be confirmation of my personal strengths, as I am generally described as calm, caring, reliable, and supportive. My teammate has said that my level of empathy and encouragement has helped to improve the tone of our team when going through tough times.

    Weaknesses

    The main leadership challenges I face are overthinking, moderate self-confidence with regard to innovation, and complexity in making decisions. In some cases, I might be indecisive because I take into consideration the impact of the action and how it will impact other individuals; therefore, I might not make prompt decisions when I need to take some critical decisions. My personal assessment scores substantiate these statements, i.e., in the category of “Be Innovative, I scored 23 out of 30, i.e., despite having innovative abilities, I still lack self-confidence in the face of uncertainties and free and decisive thinking. The same problem was observed by other people, as they also reported that I consider numerous alternative solutions before arriving at a decision.

    Opportunities

    Participation in training and innovation programs, finding mentors, and involvement in leadership roles are some of the development strategies that can assist me in becoming a better leader. Speaking of myself, I would rather choose a learning strategy that will assist me in becoming a creative individual and become more skilled in making decisions in unpredictable circumstances. In addition, the views of my workmates on my high potential and good leadership skills have also encouraged me to undertake leadership projects. These developmental plans will, therefore, support me in fixing my weaknesses and being an effective leader.

    Threats

    A heavy workload, emotional exhaustion, and time management issues are some of the issues that can affect my effectiveness as a leader. As I am rather committed to assisting people, I get to do an excessive amount of unnecessary work, which could cause me to become overstressed and overburdened. I have been informed by some that I like doing extra work in spite of the fact that I have quite a good workload. Research shows that leaders can lose skills to make good decisions and their performance can be adversely influenced by the emotional stress they experience (Edu-Valsania et al., 2022). The above information becomes a good reminder that I need to ensure that there is balance in my life in order to maintain good health and grow as a leader.

    Personal Leadership Statement

    In regard to my leadership traits, I would strive to ensure that my leadership communication style is grounded in some fundamental attributes like empathy, integrity, and teamwork. As an alternative to the concept of leadership being a tool of controlling others, I think about it as a means by which I will one day be able to assist people in realizing their true potential by playing as a team to accomplish some common goals. This is how I would like to see myself, as I will be able to foster innovation and self-improvement.

    Growth Opportunities

    • Emotional intelligence, flexibility, and interpersonal skills are personal strengths that will assist me in achieving my professional goals. My personal strengths will enable me to ensure that we have teamwork and maintain stability among the team members, particularly when they are challenged. Additionally, I believe that my own strengths will be used to make me a successful leader and never lose my focus on the team, through all the challenges. The studies have found that adaptability and empathy are some of the personal traits of a leader that enhance organizational performance and promote morale among employees (Maldonado and Marquez, 2023). In reference to my weaknesses, I have come up with two SMART goals.
    • Firstly, in four months to come (T), I will participate in at least two events related to innovations, as well as creative thinking (S). I need to put these efforts into making sure that I develop constantly and improve my adaptive thinking skills. This aim (M) can be measured in the form of completion of a minimum of two workshops. The reason why it is possible (A) is because of the existence of Internet-based learning and the fact that it is applicable (R) to enhance my skills as a leader and in creative thinking.
    • Secondly, in the next three months (T), I will apply a clear approach to making decisions in my leadership positions (S) to make sure that I decrease the time I spend making decisions on average by 30% (M) each week. There are two ways to attain this goal: (A) with practice and peer and supervisor feedback. It is relevant (R) since enhancing efficiency in making decisions is a crucial aspect of reinforcing leadership performance and productivity.

    Conclusion

    In this way, I am able to discover more about myself as a leader, particularly in areas where my competencies are and where my competencies are lacking. I think I am an empathetic leader who can be trusted because I value the significance of being truthful and having real personal relations. But what must be practiced is to keep on improving the skill of concentrating and being creative in making decisions. In general, I would like to become a well-rounded and upright leader within the coming few years.
